How We Began
It is hard to pinpoint when God started moving us in the direction that now is called Hope On Wings Foundation for the simple reason that when it all began, we had no clue what God had in mind. Sound familiar?
1993
This was the year the Sample family attended Mission Institute and received a call through Adventist Frontier Missions to go to Papua New Guinea. We served in Tipas for several years and then worked for the Division as principal at Paglum Adventist High School. It was during those years that our hearts were knit with the people and we saw the extreme challenges faced by the church. Travel into the interior is bordering on impossible without the benefit of air services. Exceptions were along rivers that were navigable by dugout canoe but the costs and time expended were incredible.
1997
While caring for Jack’s aging parents in Sutherlin, OR, we set up a non-profit called “Three Angels over Niugini” to support church laymen in PNG. The monies were sent through our friend and pilot, Trevor Robinson and later Les Anderson to support these national workers. When these pilots no longer worked in PNG we had no way to channel these funds so 3AON ceased to exist.
1999
We were able to join with Jerre Patzer on a mission trip to Goroka, PNG and reconnect with many of our friends. Still we were unable to make solid connections that would allow the efficient funds transfer so no support of lay workers was possible.
